There is huge speculation from very reliable sources that Apple is bringing back its small-screen notebook.  Ever since they cancelled their line of 12″ screen laptops, fans of Apple have been begging for its return.  Now, it seems, they might be getting their wish.  Apple’s main notebook-maker partner Quanta has landed an order for 400,000 to 500,000 new machines sporting an 11.6-inch display, with delivery scheduled before the end of this year. The screen would be LED-lit, and based on earlier rumors the low-power Intel Core-i series chips would be nestled inside.  Read the full article at Fast Company

Habitually Chic has a great series of images of the Villa Necchi Campiglio, the home featured in the film “I Am Love” of the Recchi family.  Constructed between 1932 and 1935 by the Milanese architect Piero Portaluppi, Necchi Campiglio Villa has survived completely intact, both outside with its ample yard, tennis court and pool, and inside with its rich succession of rooms. Architecture, decorative arts, furnishings and collections express as a harmonious whole the high standard of living of the owners, who belonged to the upper middle class of Lombard industrial families. At the same time, the fervor of daily…

Sometimes I don’t know which moves slower: civil rights for the GLBT in America, or the Vatican’s policies on just about everything regarding modern life.  This week a Federal Judge ruled that Major Margaret Witt should get back to work ASAP, kickstarting the latest legal setback to the US military’s outrageous treatment of gays and lesbians serving in the military.  Her attorneys, led by the American Civil Liberties Union, said Major Witt’s case now serves as a template for other gays and lesbians who may experience a similar discharge.  Unfortunately, this legal win does nothing for those who have already…

Wall Street Journal has an amazing story of a recent screening of Stanley Kubrick’s first-ever movie in Los Angeles recently.  Although Kubrick never wanted the film to be released, there’s quite a bit of talk between those involved that a DVD release is very likely to happen.  Kubrick never had copyright to the film and, therefore, the Kubrick estate (run by his family) will probably never be able to stop the release.  The people involved in the restoration and nearly guaranteed release stated “It’s a fairly complicated undertaking, but with the estate and with it being Stanley Kubrick, I think…

Scientific American Editor-In-Chief Mariette DiChristina and Dr. Robert Epstein led a volunteer exercise called “soul gazing” as part of the March 10, 2010 event “How To Fall In Love And Stay That Way”.  I’m not sure if this works or not, but it’s worth a shot.  Or you could just get the other person wasted and take advantage of them.  Both techniques have their pros and cons. The Peregrine Falcon (Falco Peregrinus) , also known as the Peregrine and historically as the “Duck Hawk” in North America, is a cosmopolitan bird of prey in the family Falconidae. It is a large, crow-sized falcon, with a blue-gray back, barred white underparts, and a black head and “moustache”. It can reach speeds over 320 km/h (200 mph) in a stoop, making it one of the fastest creatures on the planet. As is common with bird-eating raptors, the female is much bigger than the male.  Source: Wikipedia

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is donating $100,000,000 to Newark schools, but I can’t help but wonder if this is all part of some elaborate public relations preemptive strike aimed squarely at David Fincher’s “The Social Network” coming to theaters October 1.  But if there’s a whole whack of kids out there getting a better education because of him I guess I don’t really care.  All this goodwill has bought Mr. Facebook a little bit more time to force 500,000,000 of us to keep on ‘liking’ things as he continues to take…
