TDO was commissioned by Wallpaper* Magazine to re-approach the design of a doll’s house. They were asked to consider Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye as an inspirational starting point, and from there developed a concept that successfully responded with a functional doll’s house with a contemporary design. Responding to the use of ramps as vertical circulation in Villa Savoye’s the Doll’s House replicates this idea and also features its vertical circulation via ramps which are expressed both on the interior and exterior.
TDO adapted Le Corbusier’s concept of a free plan, to a free section, creating a vertical volume and a narrow floor plan. The House opens from the center and reveals a miniature building where light can penetrate to all corners and a manageable depth where all spaces are easily accessible. Another highlight of the design is the Doll’s House ability to have dual functionality as a lamp when closed and a contemporary toy when opened.
