9 Signs That Your Relationship Will Last

Knowing that you are in a relationship that’s going to withstand the test of time can be very comforting. Not everybody is fortunate enough to be in a relationship that’s going to last. In fact, many relationship experts agree that long-term relationships are becoming more and more uncommon, and instead, people are more interested in one-night stands and short flings.

If you are in a relationship and want to know if it is going to last, then there are some sure-fire signs to look out for. Here are nine of those signs:

Sexual Satisfaction

One sign that a relationship is going to last is that both people are sexually satisfied. Relationship experts claim that sexual fulfilment prevents conflicts and arguments. If you aren’t sexually fulfilled but still want to stay with your partner in spite of this, then you can invest in sex toys, which can bring excitement back to your time in the bedroom together. You can buy male sex toys online, in addition to female sex toys. Sexual satisfaction is associated with commitment, stability, a lower divorce rate, and higher levels of love and attraction. Sex is one of the most important elements of a healthy relationship.

Mutual Enjoyment

Another indication that your relationship is going to last is that you both have a lot of fun together. A couple that laughs has fun, and spends their time together tends to last longer than couples that don’t. If your relationship is lacking laughter and enjoyment, then it’s time to start introducing fun to it. You can consider going out on date nights, visiting the cinema, and going on hikes. In addition, if you exercise with your partner, then research suggests that you’re more likely to stay with them long-term. You could go to the gym, jog together, or practise calisthenics at home.

Trustworthiness

If you trust your partner, then you are more likely to stay with them for a long time than a person who doesn’t trust their partner might. This is because trust indicates a strong, loving bond. Unfortunately, extramarital affairs and infidelities are becoming commonplace in our society. If you are in a relationship where your partner is reliable, trustworthy, and faithful, then you are extremely lucky. It is also important that your partner trusts you. If trust is one-sided, then your relationship is less likely to succeed. If there isn’t trust in your relationship, then it’s time to sit down with your partner and discuss why that is.

Mutual Commitment

If your relationship is going to succeed and stand the test of time, then you need to both be as mutually committed as one another. If you aren’t in it together, then you won’t stay together forever. You need to be your partner’s sidekick. Anything that you go through, they must go through with you. What this essentially means is that whenever you are experiencing emotional difficulty, that your partner is there to support you, and vice versa. In addition, when times of hardship come your way [which they inevitably will] you both work it out together and don’t throw in the towel.

Affectionate Touching

There’s a wealth of evidence to suggest that couples who affectionately touch each other are more likely to stay together for a long time. This is because affectionate touching is an indication of a deep, loving bond. With that said, however, some people simply do not like to be touched. If your partner doesn’t like being touched, then it doesn’t mean that they don’t love you. As long as your relationship has other indications of strength, then a lack of affectionate touching doesn’t really mean anything. However, if you are lucky enough to have a partner who can’t keep their hands off of you, then this bodes well for your relationship.

Letting Go

What kills many relationships is one person’s inability to let things go. After a conflict, disagreement, or argument, if one person harbours resentment, then it can be very problematic. The resentful partner is likely to be more argumentative, which can be a catalyst for more arguments in the future. When you are constantly bickering with your partner, it’s hard to enjoy their company. This is why couples who argue a lot do not survive. If you find it hard to move on from arguments, then it’s time to try. The faster that you can move on and let go of your anger, the stronger your relationship can become.

Sharing Emotions

If you have a strong emotional bond with your partner, then you will both regularly share your feelings with one another. Relationships, where neither person says how they really feel, are doomed for failure. If you don’t share with your partner but you want your relationship to last, then it’s time that you start. Sharing can be as simple as telling them why you have had a bad day. It could also be telling them about longstanding emotional trauma. Sharing should be mutual, so if your partner doesn’t share you should encourage them to.

Emotional Bond

If your relationship is going to last, then you need to have an emotional bond with your partner. An emotional bond is a connection to your partner that cannot be broken. In addition to an emotional bond, there also needs to be respect in your relationship. If you do not respect your partner then it will be hard to make a success out of your relationship. Respect is a very important element that’s often overlooked. If you disrespect or disparage your partner, they will not stay with you.

Empathy

Empathy is a very important quality found in strong relationships. If you cannot empathise with your partner [and they can’t empathise with you], then you will have trouble communicating, expressing your feelings, or explaining yourself. If your relationship lacks empathy, then you should go to a counsellor and discuss your feelings. A lack of empathy is something that can be overcome, provided that you make an effort.

If you want to stay with your partner for the rest of your life, then you need to make sure that your relationship has the qualities that are listed here in this article. All of these qualities can be worked on and built up, so don’t be discouraged if your relationship lacks some of them.
