Whether you’ve spent day at work or at home with the kids, it’s important that you take time out for yourself once you’ve clocked off. Adopting a self-care ritual is not only a treat for yourself, but an important way to manage any stress or anxiety that may be building up. One way to create a soothing self-care routine is to create a sanctuary in your home where you can go to in order to relax. The bathroom is a great choice for this as this is where you can close the door and indulge in some pampering. In fact, turning your bathroom into a ‘cocoon room’ is a major trend for 2021. If you’re looking for ways to transform your bathroom into a calming space, here are some ideas to help you.

Focus on lighting

Swap the bright light for ambient LEDs around the bathroom. Add lamps to the windowsill or shelves and light some candles to create a soothing atmosphere. A dimmer switch is also ideal, especially if you like to adjust your lighting to suit your mood in the moment.

Revitialise the colour scheme

If you’ve been meaning to update the colour scheme in your bathroom, there’s no time like the present. Introduce calming colours that will help you to lay back and unwind in your bath. You could use the Colour Affects theory to introduce the colours you want in the space. For instance, you might be drawn to blue as this is a soothing colour that can calm the mind. Violet is another great choice as this is a spiritual tone that is associated with meditation. Balance out these colours with reassuring neutrals such as greys or soft whites.

Add soothing scents

Aromatherapy taps into our sense of smell. Choose natural scents that are likely to keep you calm, such as serene lavender or a warm, citrusy bergamot. Mint or herbal smells are also ideal when creating a bathroom sanctuary.

Create a playlist

Invest in a waterproof Bluetooth speaker and create a playlist designed to help you feel settled. Steer clear of anything too lively and instead opt for mindful, meditative melodies that are likely to help you feel relaxed.

Select your favourites

From soft, fluffy towels to your go-to bath products, make sure your bathroom is filled with your favourite things to help you feel cosy and pampered. Indulge in a dressing gown that’s just for you to slip into after your daily bath and select products that will leave your skin feeling good too.

What will you do to create a soothing bathroom sanctuary?
