The other night I was watching Antiques Roadshow, and as is usually the case, 9 times out of 10 it’s easy tell right away that the item up for appraisal is a moderate dud. But as soon as the camera zoomed in on this woman’s ornate jade and gold box I knew something was different about it. As you will learn in the video below, the box itself was made by renowned designer-decorator-goldsmith, Edward Farmer, who was based in New York’s Carlyle Hotel from the ’20s through the 1940s. But there’s much more to the fascinating story as you will see in the clip below.
