Anytime that you are away from home travelling whether this is for holiday or work, it is perfectly natural to worry about your home. People often obsess over things like leaving a door open, the boiler packing up or a break-in and, while these are all highly unlikely, it can cause a great deal of stress. So, what can you do to protect your home while you travel?

Inform Your Neighbours

One of the best things that you can do is to inform your neighbours before you leave. They will be able to keep an eye on the house while you are away and can alert you if there is anything to worry about which can provide peace of mind and allow you to know that there is nothing wrong while you are away.

Have Friends/Family Check In

You could also give a key to a friend or family member and have them check in every few days to make sure that there is nothing wrong. If you are really worried, you could even have them housesit while you are away which will be the best way to know that your home is protected 24/7.

Home Security Systems

Home security systems are a smart home upgrade to make regardless, but they are a great way to protect your home and provide peace of mind whenever you are away. Additionally, you could set up cameras inside the home if you want to be able to keep an eye on the house while you are away.

Insurance

It is unlikely that anything will happen while you are away, but if it does then it is better to be safe than sorry which is why insurance is important. Home insurance is good for general coverage, but you should also make sure that you have boiler cover in case there are any issues with the boiler while you are away for financial protection and peace of mind.

Keep a Low Profile on Social Media

If you live alone or you are away with the people that you live with, it is a good idea to keep a low profile on social media. It might be tempting to post your travel pics, but this simply communities that your home is vacant and this poses a threat so you should always wait until your back to post your holiday photos.

These are all smart ways to protect your home while you are away and hopefully will help you to enjoy your trip without worrying about your home.

I've been writing since 2008 about a wide range of topics. I also love making furniture in my spare time, and birdwatching with my wife near our home in southern England.
