The Boston Light was first illuminated on September 14, 1716, thereby making the oldest lighthouse in America older than America itself. At the time, a tax of 1 cent was charged on each vessel moving in or out of Boston Harbor in order to pay for the tower’s maintenance. Fast forward to 2016 and the Boston Light is days away from its 300th birthday. CBS News’ Mark Albert paid a visit to Little Brewster Island and made his way up to the tower’s light source where he made an incredible little discovery.
