ESPN’s renowned short film series, 30-for-30, recently profiled octogenarian marathon runner Joy Johnson, one of the most famous runners in New York City’s annual marathon. Back when Joy was a 59-year-old empty nester she decided she didn’t want to be a boring wife and mother whose kids had left the house, leaving her with nothing to do but mope around. Instead, she strapped on her runners and instantly fell in love with jogging. This is all I’m going to say about Joy’s story, because to fill you in on any other details would ruin what you’re about to watch. This is one of the most memorable short films you will ever see. When you’re done you can read the director’s statement HERE. To see all of ESPN’s extraordinary short films from this series CLICK HERE.
