Bin Liu of the University of California recently presented a fascinating prototype for an impact-absorbing origami “shield” at the American Physical Society meeting in San Antonio, Texas, on March 2nd. Liu’s design stole the show this year, and now everyone — including the editors of New Scientist — are standing up and taking notice.
