Watch The First Trailer For Alex Garland’s Highly Anticipated A.I. Thriller “Ex Machina”

Screenwriter and novelist Alex Garland makes his directorial debut in the highly anticipated artificial intelligence thriller Ex Machina.  Starring Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, and Alicia Vikander as the android, the film tells the story of a young programmer who is selected to participate in a breakthrough experiment in artificial intelligence (at the home of the CEO of the robotics corporation he works for) by evaluating the human qualities of a breathtaking female A.I.  Garland has built his stellar reputation behind the scenes, having written three screenplays for Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Sunshine, and 28 Weeks Later), as well as Never Let Me Go directed by Mark Romanek, 2012’s Dredd, and the upcoming epic HALO.  Garland also wrote the novel which was the basis for The Beach starring Leonardo DiCaprio.  Ex Machina is scheduled to arrive in North American theatres in April 2015.  I have to say, after one look at the trailer, Ex Machina looks to be one of the most beautifully art directed films I’ve seen in quite some time, so a major hats off is in order for production designer Mark Digby (Slumdog Millionaire, Dredd, Never Let Me Go).
