DIrector Yuri Ancarani was so fascinated by the marble mountains of northern Italy he spent nearly a year filming on in the Carrera region of the Apuan Alps in northwestern Italy. The power and beauty of the area is undeniable, made all the more dramatic with the surreal marble sheered-off facades exposed by years of marble quarry extraction. “Marble quarries are places so unbelievable and striking, they almost feel like they are big theaters or sets,” Ancarani tells NOWNESS. He adds, “I was so taken by the chief. How he can move gigantic marble blocks, but his own movements are light.” You can see exactly what he’s talking about by watching a short clip from the film above.
