Andrew Solomon is one of my favorite human beings in the world.  I first discovered Andrew when he appeared on an instalment of the Charlie Rose Brain Series dealing with depression.  His personal account of his own experience with clinical depression is the most profound I have ever heard.  It was through this appearance that I soon learned of Andrew’s two award-winning books: The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression (winner of the 2001 National Book Award for Nonfiction), and Far from the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity (winner of the 2012 National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction, and ranked as one of TIME magazine’s Best Books of the Year for 2012, and The New York Times Ten Best Books of 2012).  Andrew Solomon has also made three TED Talks which are each a powerful example of his brilliant analysis of the human condition.  The most recent of which was filmed in March 2014 and you can watch it above, in which Andrew so wisely explains how one must Fold the worst events of your life into a narrative of triumph.”  I have also re-posted his other two TED Talks below, as well as his powerful appearance on Charlie Rose.
