On October 7th, Sotheby’s will make history when they auction off the world’s greatest white diamond in Hong Kong.  It is enormous and perfect — a staggering 118-carat stone discovered in Africa, which is perfectly white, and the size of an egg.  Early pre-sale estimates put the price tag at a whopping $28 to $35 million.

The stone was unearthed in an African quarry, in a country which Sotheby’s will not be mentioning.  In an interview with the Associated Press, Quek Chin Yeow, Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s Asia, revealed the owner wishes to remain anonymous.  The AP adds: “The current record for any white diamond is $26.7 million.  That pear-shaped stone was over 101 carats.  It was sold at Christie’s in Geneva last spring.  Three other white diamonds over 100 carats were auctioned by Sotheby’s — in 1990, 1993 and 1995.  The white stone is part of a lineup of jewels up for auction that also includes a flawless, round, vivid blue diamond, worth an estimated $19 million at 7.6 carats.”  The massive white diamond is the largest and most significant such diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America.  Blue diamonds are, in fact, much rarer than white diamonds, and the record for a blue diamond was set in 2011 when a 6-carat blue diamond was sold for $10.2 million.  Blue diamonds are in the same family of stone as the iconic Hope Diamond which is owned by the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and is not for sale.

In my opinion, there is only one woman on Earth who can handle a gigantic, 118-carat, flawless white diamond, and that’s Joan Collins.  Joan, I’m not sure which billionaire geezer you’re dating at the moment, but I hope he’s able to afford you what is rightfully yours.  You deserve it, so rock on.
