The Khan Academy is a non-profit organization on a mission to change education for the better by providing a free world-class education to anyone anywhere. All of the site’s resources are available to anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a student, teacher, home-schooler, principal, adult returning to the classroom after 20 years, or a friendly alien just trying to get a leg up in earthly biology. It belongs to you. The Khan Academy’s materials and resources are available to you completely free of charge, and their library of videos covers K-12 math, science topics such as biology, chemistry, and physics, and even reaches into the humanities with playlists on finance and history. Each video is a digestible chunk, approximately 10 minutes long (delivered by the Academy’s founder, 35-year-old Sal Kahn), and especially purposed for viewing on the computer. Sal notes: “I teach the way that I wish I was taught. The lectures are coming from me, an actual human being who is fascinated by the world around him.” With the backing of Bill Gates and Google, The Khan Academy and its free online educational videos are moving into the classroom and across the world. 60 Minutes recently profiled Sal and his Kahn Academy and you can watch the feature below.
