Today Washed Out (a.k.a. the hotness otherwise known as Ernest Greene) released the video for “Eyes Be Closed,” the latest single off his newest album Within And Without (you can watch it HERE), but it’s simply no comparison to the greatest offering off the record — his phenomenal song “A Dedication.”  I’m working on a film right now, and I usually listen to the song on my way to work from my home in the Plateau quarter of Montreal to the Mile End area about 15 minutes away on foot.  Mile End is one of the crown jewels of Montreal being one of the last communities left of its kind in Canada where genuinely significant artists are able to thrive in an almost completely ungentrified urban haven of artist studios and massive century-old lofts that are still affordable — as well as be surrounded by a community of fellow creators engaged in the common goal of mind and intellectual expansion.  All this repeated listening of “A Dedication” has burned the mood of this song into these streets for me, and now whenever I hear it I can’t help but think of the magic of Mile End, not to mention the beauty of the song in its own right.  This happens to me every once in a while, and then eventually I move on, but these days (at least for now) Washed Out is turning my morning commute into the dreamiest of experiences.  Enjoy “A Dedication” for yourself below, and to purchase your own copy head over to Sub Pop Records.  For all FEELguide posts relating to Washed Out (including a link for free streaming of his newest album Within And Without)   CLICK HERE.
