A few years ago, designers (and friends) Matylda Krzykowski, Branko Popovik, Nawie Kuipers and Laurens Hamacher were enjoying a couple bottles of wine at a party and before they knew it they had hatched the idea for The Clash Project, a collective inspired by the fusion of disparate branches of the design world coming together to “clash” with fashion in order to open up new potential realities. Their main objective with FASHIONclash is to expand the possibilities of fashion to their widest possible reach via the cross-pollination of various designers’ backgrounds (i.e. industrial design, photography, illustration, fine arts, video, and textile artists). Their first show occurred in summer 2009, and their latest one was held recently from June 10-12, 2011. The project’s curator is Matylda Krzykowski, and she explains how each of the ten designers provides a single-phrase description of each of their creations.
