6 Problems with Your Skincare Routine

It’s great that you have a dedicated skincare routine. However, if you overlook certain things, you could end up doing your skin more harm than good. Here are six problems that could apply to your skincare routine.

1. Your Shampoo and Conditioner Are Too Harsh

While there are many great shampoos and conditioners on the market that only feature natural ingredients, the majority contain chemicals. Unfortunately, some of those chemicals can be too harsh on your scalp or damage your hair. For instance, sodium chloride is used in shampoos and conditioners to thicken the consistency of the products, but if you have a sensitive scalp, sodium chloride can make it dry and itchy. It could even eventually result in hair loss. Other chemicals to avoid in large quantities in shampoo and conditioner products include sulfates, parabens, polyethylene glycols, formaldehyde, and dimethicone. So, switch to shampoos and conditioners that don’t have too many chemicals that are harsh for your skin.

2. Your Skincare Routine Isn’t Active Enough

A good skincare routine involves using many different products. In addition to items like moisturizers and cleansers, you could be using Nava MD skincare products that are customized specifically for your complexion and skin condition. But whatever products you’re using, it’s crucial you apply them to your skin at the right times. Too many people make the mistake of having no fixed routine or not knowing when it’s best to use certain skincare products. Cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF should be used daily whereas exfoliators and masks should be used weekly. Spot treatments can be used as required.

3. Your Facial Products Aren’t Multifunctional Enough

Speaking of not using skincare products at the right times, it can be frustrating and time-consuming having to use so many different products for different things. So, you should consider using products that are multifunctional. There are various facial products available that combine different properties. For instance, there are balms that heal chapped lips and hydrate your skin. The more multifunctional skincare products you use, the easier and quicker your skincare routine will be.

4. Your Cleanser Contains Chemicals That Aren’t Gentle Enough

Facial cleansers help to clean your skin and can combat a variety of skin ailments. But cleansers also contain chemicals. Depending on your skin type, some of those chemicals may not be gentle enough. You can seek advice from a dermatologist to find out which chemical ingredients in cleansers are too harsh for your skin type. Alternatively, you can go through the more difficult process of trial and error to see the effects that different cleansers containing different ingredients have on your skin.

5. You Don’t Use a Retinoid or Moisturizer

Moisturizers help to prevent you from getting dry skin. A good moisturizer can also improve your skin texture and mask imperfections, so you should definitely be using a moisturizer as part of your daily skincare routine. You should also look for moisturizers and other skincare products that contain retinol. It really is a wonderful ingredient when it comes to skincare. Retinol is derived from vitamin A. It can help to combat fine lines, reduce acne, maintain a healthy skin glow, and boost your collagen production. Furthermore, retinol functions as an antioxidant, which means it can help to reduce the signs of aging.

6. You’re Scrubbing Your Face Too Harshly

Using an exfoliator as part of your skincare routine comes recommended, as it works against the top layers of your skin to remove dead and dull skin cells. However, when you rub your face too harshly with an exfoliator or another skincare product, you can end up causing damage to your skin; especially if you have sensitive skin. So, simply do not scrub your face too harshly if you want to avoid potential skin damage.
