If you’re like me then you often find yourself thinking about what life will look like during retirement. At 41, there’s a good chance I still have 30 years of work or so ahead of me if I ever want to meet my goal of retiring along the coast of Big Sur. But as society’s definition of retirement keeps changing, and the growing trend of freelancing keeps rising, it’s looking more and more like “work” — in some form or another — is going to be part of our lives in our golden years more than it ever was in decades past.

Some folks (me included) can’t imagine ever living the outdated retirement lifestyle of one day arriving at a moment in life where we close the door on work forever. I plan on having clients and personal money-making projects my whole life if I can swing it. And I may even dabble in the growing trend of “workamping.” According to the official definition, workamping is defined as follows: “Workampers are adventuresome individuals, couples and families who have chosen a wonderful lifestyle that combines ANY kind of part-time or full-time work with RV camping. If you work as an employee, operate a business, or donate your time as a volunteer, AND you sleep in an RV, you are a Workamper!”

Although I’m not certain that final exclamation point was entirely necessary, my intrigue in workamping was peaked earlier this morning when I saw TODAY‘s profile of one couple who have made a new life for themselves by downsizing their old one, loading up on a new RV and outdoor toys, and hitting the road. If you like what you see then you can learn much more about the workamping lifestyle by visiting Workamper.com (which also includes a great jobs board), and there are countless working videos on YouTube as well.

If I were to hit the road in a trailer it would probably be a classic Airstream, and in honor of the iconic trailer I’ve included a report on the factory which produces them. Turns out the growing popularity of Airstreams has this factory busting at the seams. (Photo via Pexels.com)
