Karen Elliott House is a close friend of Charlie Rose, but she’s best known as the powerhouse former publisher of The Wall Street Journal as well as the former President of Dow Jones International until her retirement in 2006. House also won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for her interviews with Jordan’s King Hussein, which anticipated the problems Ronald Reagan‘s Middle East peace plan would face (House has won numerous other accolades throughout her distinguished career, far too many to mention in this post).  Few individuals have as acute an understanding of the Middle East as Karen Elliott House, and her latest book entitled On Saudi Arabia is unanimously praised for its powerful insight into the future of not only the Saudi Kingdom, but the entire region. House recently sat down with Charlie Rose to discuss America’s tense relationship with the Saudis, and you can watch it in full above. Rose also interviewed her back in 2012 and that interview in particular is even more riveting, providing a fascinating look into the Saudi royal family and why it’s future is so fragile. You can watch it below.
