A new version of ATLAS™, designed to operate outdoors and inside buildings. It is specialized for mobile manipulation, and is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects. This version of ATLAS™ is about 5′ 9″ tall (about a head shorter than the DRC ATLAS™) and weighs 180 lbs. Unlike previous versions, this version ATLAS™ no longer needs a tethered cable to feed it with power and data. It is fully free and autonomous to take over the world all on its own. And in case you didn’t see the photo of Mark Zuckerberg’s appearance at Samsung’s Mobile World Congress event that everyone’s talking about, you can see it below. And to find out why folk are kind of freaking about it visit WIRED.co.uk.
