Acclaimed director Emily Kai Bock is the creative force behind this sun-kissed video portrait of Montreal musician Alex Zhang Hungtai (a.k.a. Last Lizard) who now calls Los Angeles his home. Made for the new ongoing series The Cultural, Bock brings Alex to the desert for an atmospheric vignette oozing with a stunning aura of mystery and vanguard energy. Last Lizard is a creative rebirth for Alex, who is better known to his fans as Dirty Beaches. In an interview with NOWNESS, Alex discusses his passion, his heroes, and his creative process. “Whenever I play a small basement show just doing whatever I want, I feel so happy. All my [musical] heroes are basically reinventing themselves every night when they play. Whenever I play a small basement show just doing whatever I want, I feel so happy.” You can watch the video below, and stream his terrific new mixtape for DAZED above as well.
