The area of the Nile Valley known as Nubia (i.e. present day Sudan, see MAP of Nubian region), was home to three Kushite kingdoms, the first of which had its capital at Kerma (2600-1520 BC). The second was centred at Napata (1000-300 BC), and the third kingdom’s capital was at Meroë (300 BC–AD 300). These kingdoms competed heavily with Egypt, and during their civilization they built approximately 255 pyramids, the most extensive site being in Meroë. Now with aerial drone technology we are able to spatially connect these structures like never before.
