A couple of weekends ago I was in New York, and at one point I found myself staring straight up the facade of the new World Trade Center to see its impressive V-shaped point of infinity. A truly impressive sight indeed. But it most certainly pales in comparison to what it must be like to be atop the WTC tower enjoying the view of Manhattan from inside the new One World Observatory. The observatory doesn’t open until May 29, but yesterday we were given a sneak peak of one of the most remarkable parts of the experience — the elevator ride to the top. Once you close the doors the four walls of the elevator light up in HD and present the viewer with a fascinating timelapse animation that recreates the development of New York City’s skyline, from the 1500s to today. You can get a taste of what it’s like in the clip above.
