Cameron Beyl is a filmmaker whose passion for the masters of contemporary film inspired him to create The Directors Series, a personal project which Beyl is using to explore the craft of the greatest directors of all time, as well as to grow as a director himself. Beyl writes: “Basically, it works like this: I choose a film director and watch their entire filmography in chronological order. That includes features, shorts, music videos, commercials, TV, etc. There are only a few prerequisites for inclusion on the list: either the director has 3 critically-acclaimed feature films to their credit, or they are otherwise of some significance within the art form and warrant mention/debate. The overall purpose of all of this is to twofold: 1) glean insight about respected directors and learn from their victories and failures as I literally watch their careers develop, and 2) apply these insights into my own development as a filmmaker.
