For the past three years the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has compiled their alternative ranking of the world’s best countries for human flourishing with regards to overall well-being — an alternative to the standard index which focuses far too much attention on GDP and other monetary metrics. Instead, the OECD has quantified a more human spectrum of 24 indicators in 11 categories, such as jobs (i.e. unemployment rates and income levels), civic engagement and community, etc. But perhaps the most fascinating of all is how the OECD allows the user to vary the settings on the interactive chart, thereby allowing them to adjust the metrics to what they feel is most important. The OECD’s settings can be seen in the chart below, and to adjust the chart to your own settings be sure to visit OECD’s Better Life Index. (Source: The Economist).
