Donna Tartt (born December 23, 1963) is the renowned American writer and author of the novels The Secret History (1992), The Little Friend (2002), and her newest book The Goldfinch (2013).  In 2003 Tartt was awarded the prestigious WH Smith Literary Award for The Little Friend, and over the past two decades she has become as well known for her masterful writing as she is for her notorious reclusiveness.  She almost never appears in public, and she writes one novel every decade — her newest, The Goldfinch, was named Amazon’s Book Of The Year.  The book was inspired by Dutch artist Carel Fabritius‘s 17th century painting “The Goldfish” which is currently on view at the Frick Collection in New York City through January 19th in the exhibit titled Vermeer, Rembrandt, and Hals: Masterpieces of Dutch Painting from the Mauritshuis.  You can find out exactly why this mysterious work of art inspired Tartt to pen her latest novel by watching an exceptionally rare interview she recently gave to Charlie Rose on CBS This Morning below.  You can pick up your own copy of The Goldfinch at Amazon.
