Few places in Los Angeles are oozing in as much mystique and 1930s charm as the hotel Chateau Marmont.  Built in 1927, the grounds have housed some of Hollywood’s most legendary legends — and equally, some if its most legendary stories.

Sofia Coppola’s terrific 2010 film SOMEWHERE beautifully captured the “lost soul” energy of this iconic hotel, and earlier this week, artist and filmmaker Floria Sigismondi has added her equally atmospheric interpretation to the mythology of the Chateau Marmont to the mix.  The music video is for singer-songwriter Lawrence Rothman’s debut single “Montauk Fling”, and brilliantly injects an added layer of darkness to Rothman’s brooding music.  “LA is a sunny place for shady people,” Rothman tells NOWNESS.  The single is also the very first 7″ to be be released on Sigismondi’s own music label, Mama Roma, which she created as a platform to unleash fresh, undiscovered new music.  Sigismondi — renowned for her music videos she has made for Björk, Marilyn Manson and David Bowie’s “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” starring Bowie and Tilda Swinton — has a huge admirer in Rotham himself.  Rothman describes Sigismondi’s visuals as “a spew of consciousness about a messy love triangle.”
