Larry Ellison (born 1944) is the founder and CEO of Oracle™, and is currently ranked as the 3rd wealthiest person in the United States with a net worth of $43 billion.  Egos are omnipresent in the world’s top 1% of the 1%, and Larry Ellison is no exception.  The fact that Mike Wilson, author of one of Ellison’s biographies, titled the book The Difference Between God and Larry Ellison: God Doesn’t Think He’s Larry Ellison (Harper Perennial 1997), gives you some idea of Ellison’s infinite reservoirs of self confidence.

We know a great deal about what Ellison is like as a businessman, but what is his style as a father?  Turns out, Ellison is not the kind of dad who tries to protect his kids from the corrosive effects that can come with being super rich.  As a matter of fact, he has made his two trustfund babies, David (30) and Megan (27), beyond rich, and the pair are taking over Hollywood.  The following is an excerpt from a story published in Forbes yesterday:

“Between their trusts and independent holdings, each is worth hundreds of millions.  That explains how the siblings, both USC film school dropouts, have managed to bankroll big-ticket Hollywood ventures, as well as being film producers themselves.  In 2010, David’s company, Skydance Productions, raised $350 million to co-finance and co-produce movies with Paramount, including ‘Mission Impossible: 4’.  More recently, he’s been executive producer of ‘World Wars Z’; ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’; and ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’.  Megan’s company, Annapurna Pictures, covered the whole budget — an estimated $45 million — for the critically-acclaimed film, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, about torture and the search for Osama bin Laden.  With a screenplay by Mark Boal, direction by Kathryn Bigelow, and production by Ellison, it was nominated this year for five Academy Awards.”

There’s much more to this story and you can read it in full by visiting Forbes.  You can read David Ellison’s filmography HERE, and Megan’s full filmography HERE.  There is no official statement of net worth for David and Megan Ellison, but their stock in their father’s company alone adds $306 million to each of their net worths.
