Anton Corbijn (born May 20, 1955) is the famed Dutch photographer, music video director, and film director best known for being the creative director behind the visual output of Depeche Mode and U2, having handled the principal promotion and sleeve photography for both for almost 3 decades.
In 2007 Corbijn released his first feature film, CONTROL, which told the story of Ian Curtis, the enigmatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional, and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of 23. His second feature, The American (starring George Clooney), garnered worldwide critical acclaim, and now Corbijn’s back with what insiders are speculating could be one of the greatest films of 2013. A Most Wanted Man is based on the 2008 novel by John le Carré which tracks a Chechen Muslim who illegally immigrates to Hamburg, where he gets caught up in the international war on terror. The film stars Rachel McAdams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe, and Daniel Brühl who looks to be a brilliant casting choice in his portrayal of Max. The Hollywood Reporter writes: “Nothing about Max (Brühl) seems to add up — is he a victim, a thief or, worse yet, an extremist intent on destruction? All the while, they are watched by the brilliant, roguish chief of a covert German spy unit (Hoffman), who fights to put together the pieces as the clock ticks.”
The trailer for the film arrived earlier this morning, and it looks absolutely spectacular. New financing and production venture Demarest Films is co-financing and co-producing Most Wanted Man. The film has been sold nearly everywhere else worldwide except North America, but I can imagine A Most Wanted Man will be nabbed up within a matter of days, if not hours.
