Last week the Financial Times celebrated its 125th anniversary.  In honor of such an important birthday for one of the world’s most prestigious and influential newspapers the Empire State Building was lit in glowing peach light, a tribute to FT’s signature peach-colored newsprint.  On May 2nd Charlie Rose hosted the three top figures from the Financial Times for a remarkable conversation: FT editor Lionel Barber, assistant editor and columnist Gillian Tett, and U.S. managing editor Martin Dickson.  The global economy is a hugely complex, interconnected system, and there is perhaps no other news organization more trusted and more capable of understanding its mechanisms and inner workings, especially its relationship to the #1 factor which influences global economics — politics.  This is easily one of the most captivating conversations on the economy I have ever seen — part of the reason of which is the amazingness that is Gillian Tett.  With her laser sharp economic foresight, wisdom, and brilliant oratorial and writing skills, it’s no wonder she has been called The Most Powerful Woman In Newspapers.  For all things Financial Times be sure to visit FT.com, follow the publication on Facebook, and browse Gillian Tett’s FT archive HERE.  And you might recognize Gillian from the mindblowing 2010 documentary Inside Job, which took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary.
