The other day my friend had mentioned a 3-day healthy cleanse program he had just started called HUNGRY FOR CHANGE.  Everybody and their grandmother has done a cleanse so it normally shouldn’t have caught my ear — except for those two most intriguing words of all: “three days”.  I had only ever heard of 7- or 10-day cleanses, so the fact that a 3-day one existed captured my (low) will power’s attention.  My friend sent me the link, and I followed the cleanse right down to the strictest detail.  What happened next has had a profound impact on my perception of food, health, and the food, diet and weightloss industries.

James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch are nutritional consultants turned filmmakers.  Motivated by an illness in their own family the duo set off to make the documentary FOOD MATTERS, and the pair have followed up their success with the brand new doc HUNGRY FOR CHANGE.  “We believe that your body is worthy of good care and that no one is more suitably qualified to care for it than yourself,” say Colquhoun and Bosch.  We all want more energy, an ideal body and beautiful younger looking skin — so what is stopping us from getting this?  In the documentary HUNGRY FOR CHANGE the filmmakers expose the shocking secrets the diet, weightloss and food industry don’t want you to know about, and the deceptive strategies designed to keep you coming back for more.  The film exposes the vicious cycle trap that countless millions of people fall into with each passing day and each passing year.  Thankfully, however, there’s a way out.

Hippocrates once said “Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food.”  But in 2013 most grocery store shelves are stocked with things that can barely even be described as food — poison would be a better word.  With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what’s wrong with our malnourished bodies, it’s no wonder that modern society is getting sicker.  In FOOD MATTERS, Colquhoun and Bosch’s expose the trillion dollar worldwide ‘sickness industry’ and gives people some scientifically verifiable solutions for overcoming illness naturally.

I finished the HUNGRY FOR CHANGE cleanse yesterday, and I can testify to the powerful benefits of the program.  I will be honest though — there were many moments I was close to giving up (the caffeine withdrawal headaches were probably the most gruelling side effect).  But I stuck with it until the end, and not only did the three day regimen give me more energy, a cloudless mind, bright white eyes, glowing skin, and a few less pounds, it’s given me something much more — a new way of looking at food.  I loved the three days so much I’m going for the extended plan of the cleanse — the full 7 to 10 days.

Yesterday I went out and picked up a copy of the book HUNGRY FOR CHANGE which is filled with a guide on how to guide yourself off the poison that fills our grocery stores — the first step being the cleanse.  Not only is the book a terrific resource of information and backstory on the power and importance of nutrition, it’s also filled with one of the best assortment of recipes and cooking tips I have ever discovered.  My logic going forward is this: If I feel this good after four short days, I can only imagine how much transformation occurs after an entire year or a lifetime.  I almost never write about food and diet on FEELguide, which is significant because over the past several years I’ve experienced my fair share of pitfalls with yo-yo dieting, struggles at the gym, and falling off the wagon of my own health regimen many times.  But the philosophy and science behind HUNGRY FOR CHANGE is endlessly fascinating to me, and I look forward to sharing all my discoveries and experiences in the weeks, months, and years ahead as I embark on my new journey towards healthy change, a healthy body, and a healthy mind.
