You might recall four years ago when a string of high profile burglaries in the Hollywood Hills area captured headlines for several months.  From October 2008 to August 2009, a group of teenagers from Calabasas, California repeatedly broke into the homes of various celebrities and made off with more than $3 million in cash, jewelry, and clothes.  Most of the haul came from several break-ins of Paris Hilton’s home, but other victims included Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox, Rachel Bilson, and more.  For most people, at first glance the true story might have appeared as nothing more than tabloid fodder, but the events are the subject of the latest film from Sofia Coppola.  The Bling Ring stars Emma Watson and a mostly unknown cast, and yesterday it was announced the film will open the Un Certain Regard section at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in May.  Watch for The Bling Ring when it opens in North America on June 14th.  To learn more about the true story of the Bling Ring kids you can visit Wikipedia.
