Legendary Scottish electronic duo BOARDS OF CANADA haven’t released an album since 2005’s The Campfire Headphase, but it’s appearing as if an official announcement of a brand new record is right around the corner.  The obsessively private duo gave a 99% confirmation of an imminent new album last year on their Facebook page when a fan wrote on their wall: “Rumours of a new BOC album are rife? Any truth in this ?”  The duo answered with a clear and resounding, “Yes.”

There have been other morsels of “99% confirmations” that have popped up in recent months, but none of which came from the horses’ mouths themselves.  That all changed yesterday, however, when a small batch of brand new BOARDS OF CANADA vinyls appeared in a chosen few record stores.  DUMMY reports how one New Yorker walked into the Other Music record shop (yesterday was International Record Store Day by the way) and made the discovery: “The news first came from a New York-based Reddit user who bought a copy from Other Music (the shop claimed they received the record in their shipment without any word or acknowledgement).  The vinyl contains 20 seconds of audio, in which a six digit number is said once before cutting out.”

The album graphics seem to indicate there are six of these mysterious vinyls in existence, and if arranged together they will form a coded puzzle which — when solved — will reveal the new album’s information.  Some are speculating the code will reveal the album’s release date, while some are speculating the six-digit code may be the hex code for the color turquoise.  You can read the full story by visiting DUMMY.  And to enter the world of BOARDS OF CANADA simply head over to BOARDSOFCANADA.com, and follow them on Facebook, YouTube, iTunes, and Twitter.
