When one thinks of Stanley Kubrick, one of the first things that come to mind is how the genius director forever altered the form of cinematic storytelling. 2001: A Space Odyssey is (and likely will forever be) my favorite film of all time, and together with Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, and so many more, Kubrick is not only one of the greatest directors that has ever lived, he is also one of the 20th century’s greatest minds. So earlier today I was pleasantly surprised when The Playlist revealed that a surprising breakdown which reveals the director’s most favorite films, as revealed by his family, close friends, and interviews with the filmmaker dating back to 50 years ago. Among his faves, not surprisingly, are such classics as Eraserhead, Citizen Kane, and The Godfather, but it’s Kubrick’s lesser known top picks that have his fans buzzing.
