When Clara was still a young girl living with her mom and dad she was madly in love with her boyfriend Robert Schumann (1810-1856). They wrote letters back and forth to each other, and although by today’s standards these letters would be considered Shakespearean in their sophistication, back then they were so hot-and-heavy Clara’s dad ripped them up when he found them — he was that shocked. Clara and Robert got the last laugh, however, because they eventually married and lived happily ever after. On their big day, Robert presented Clara (1819-1896) with his gift — his stunning composition entitled “Liebeslied S 566”. It’s so gorgeous I think I might have to steal it and use it for myself if I ever get get hitched to my dream man someday. If this isn’t the sound of beauty at its best then I have no idea what is.
