For years now, experts have rated the first Monday of the final full week of January to be the most depressing day of the entire year, otherwise known as “Blue Monday” (you can read more about that HERE).  But these days I’m more interested in the concept of the January Blues, the umbrella term for that feeling of general malaise and “fuck this shit” attitude that plagues most of us who call the northern hemisphere our home — in particular the city of Montreal (I’m throwing out a double “fuck this shit” right now because as the gods would have it I actually live in Montreal).  Earlier this evening as I was tredging through the fuck-this-shit slush, snow, and ice, I found myself listening to CUT COPY‘s “Dream” which miraculously took the edge off the misery of my January Blues for a total of 3 minutes and 57 seconds.  When I got home I happened to catch VAN SHE‘s “Radio Waves II” which had the same effect, so for another 3 minutes and 19 seconds I was saved.  And if you find yourself in a cold, barren wasteland of ice and snow like me you can take these songs for a spin below as well.  And any post with VAN SHE in the copy deserves a link to the equally brilliant remix of their track “Kelly” courtesy of Breakbot.  If the January Blues is my war, then music is my armor.
