It’s set to debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and earlier today it got its first trailer. Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible tells the true story of a family that was torn apart by the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that rocked Thailand and what happened to them after the waters receded. I’m man enough to admit that I got misty-eyed watching this, and for the very first time in recent years I was pulled back to that shocking day in the most vivid way. It’s one thing to see this unfold on the news, but it will be quite another to get a front row seat to this story when it hits theatres on December 21st. Worth noting, Juan Antonio Bayona also directed the phenomenal 2007 film The Orphanage.
