When the administrators of Singapore’s Changi Airport approached German “new media” firm ART+COM to come up with an installation for their Departure Hall inside Terminal 1, all bets were off.  The ART+COM team is, after all, renowned for their cutting edge designs and elegant concepts.  The final result is entitled “Kinetic Rain“, and is composed of 608 computer-controlled, copper-clad aluminum raindrops suspended from the ceiling.  The design team released the following statement: “‘Kinetic Rain’ follows a 15-minute, computationally designed choreography where the two parts move together in unison, sometimes mirroring, sometimes complementing, and sometimes responding to each other. In addition, several spot light sources mounted below the installation create a play of shadows on the terminal’s ceiling as they illuminate the movement of the rain droplets.”  For more amazingness from ART+COM be sure to visit their site at ARTCOM.de.
