When the administrators of Singapore’s Changi Airport approached German “new media” firm ART+COM to come up with an installation for their Departure Hall inside Terminal 1, all bets were off. The ART+COM team is, after all, renowned for their cutting edge designs and elegant concepts. The final result is entitled “Kinetic Rain“, and is composed of 608 computer-controlled, copper-clad aluminum raindrops suspended from the ceiling. The design team released the following statement: “‘Kinetic Rain’ follows a 15-minute, computationally designed choreography where the two parts move together in unison, sometimes mirroring, sometimes complementing, and sometimes responding to each other.
