There are few albums that I cherish more than Fleetwood Mac‘s 1977 masterpiece Rumours.  Every single time I press play on this timeless wonder, I am instantly whisked away to one of the most magical places my imagination has ever known — and will almost certainly ever know.

The classic album went straight to number one on the charts where it stayed for 31 weeks, and today, Rumours is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as the 25th greatest album of all time.  The album’s lead single “Go Your Own Way” — the first of the four singles to crack Billboard’s Top Ten — was released in January 1977, and the album in its entirety hit store shelves on February 4, 1977.  The second of the four Top Ten singles “Don’t Stop” was released in April, and 35 years ago this month the 3rd single from Rumours, “Dreams”, hit radio waves going straight to the top as well.  In September, the album’s final single “You Make Loving Fun” went number one as well.  Rumours remains the 10th best-selling album ever with more than 40 million copies sold to date.

Earlier today CNN published a fascinating interview with the Ken Caillat, author of the new book, Making Rumours: The Inside Story of the Classic Fleetwood Mac Album, who was the iconic album’s engineer/co-producer (Ken iss also the father of Grammy-winning singer Colbie Caillat and produced her No. 1 album, Breakthrough).  For any Fleetwood Mac fan it’s a brilliant conversation and you can read it in full by visiting CNN.com.  For more information on the backstory of Fleetwood Mac and the making of Rumours be sure to visit Wikipedia.
