This coming Sunday, February 26th the 84th annual Academy Awards will air on ABC at 7pm EST.  It’s been quite an amazing year for film, and one can only hope that 2012 can match the calibre of moviemaking that we’ve enjoyed this year.  In a perfect world The Tree Of Life will sweep each category it’s nominated in: Best Picture, Cinematography, and Direction.  HUGO easily deserves the award for Best Production Design (although the film itself felt a bit flat to me).  Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are each nominated for the amazingness that was Bridesmaids — McCarthy for Supporting Actress and Wiig (along with co-writer Annie Mumolo) for Best Original Screenplay. I would love to see Rooney Mara get a win for her performance in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but it will most likely go straight to Meryl Streep who did a pretty incredible job in The Iron Lady.  And hopefully Christopher Plummer will get Oscar gold for his role in Mike Mills’ amazingly accomplished Beginners.  For all things Oscar be sure to visit Oscar.go.com.  With the huge success of The Artist it would be hard not to notice how the style and silence of Old Hollywood has once again become the talk of industry, which inspired me to attach one of the most beautiful tributes to the Golden Age of Hollywood I’ve ever seen — pianist Maxence Cyrin‘s stunning cover of The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind” set to imagery from the 1928 film The Mysterious Lady starring Greta Garbo and Nagel.  Enjoy the Oscars everyone!
