I spent a few weeks in Vienna back in the fall of 2009 and was immersed from head to toe in a living history that was so intense it removed all thoughts of the present year, and managed to rewind the calendar at least several decades.  Every corner of that city oozes a heavy collective memory, yet at the same time there are intermittent blasts of architectural time warps — from the future that is.  Based in Vienna, Coop Himmelb(l)au (est. 1968) is one of the world’s most renowned architecture firms and their impressive collection of building designs around the world is mixed with their signature Viennese glass and steel rooftop penthouses.  Years ahead of their time, these sci-fi spaceship-like additions adorn the tops of several very old buildings throughout the city, and they have inspired a new generation of architects who are carrying on the tradition of landing even more of these gorgeous, blade-like designs atop other buildings citywide.  One of the latest comes from architect couple Elke Meissl and Roman Delugan who have created the following home for themselves and their children.  Absolutely incredible.
