It’s that time of the year when the music trades unleash their annual Best Of lists, and Geoffrey O’Connor just posted a link on his Facebook page where he deservedly pats himself on the back for having been ranked a very impressive #2 on Mess & Noise’s Top 20 Tracks Of 2011 for his exceptional “Whatever Leads Me To You” (you can read the FEELguide profile of the song, as well as the cover by Expensive Looks, by CLICKING HERE). Another example where I’m in full agreement would have to be their crowning of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” at #17 (you can read the FEELguide profile of the song by CLICKING HERE).
Coming in at #1 on Mess & Noise’s Top 20 is a band that I can’t believe I haven’t heard of until now: Jack Ladder And The Dreamlanders with their incredible track “Cold Feet”. Writer and critic, Edward Sharp-Paul, must also be commended for one of the most beautifully written critiques I’ve read all year (congratulations Edward, you’ve just won the gold medal from FEELguide’s List Of The Best Music Critiques Of 2011), and the following is an excerpt: “Instrumentally, the song is essentially Laurence Pike’s stuttering, gated drums, Kirin J. Callinan working sublime variations on the ‘Brass In Pocket’ riff, and a whole lotta wash. And space: ‘Cold Feet’ sounds like a lonely skyscraper in the desert …In a year of pastiche, throwbacks, and tongues-in-cheek, ‘Cold Feet’ stood out as a proper, big, ambitious rock song, unafraid and unashamed.”
