In 2007’s Michael Claytonwriter and director Tony Gilroy, takes an unflinching look at the lengths that some corporations will go to to maintain a cloak of secrecy surrounding their nefarious goings-on.  It tells the story of Michael Clayton (played by George Clooney), an attorney with a gambling problem, who is trying to cope with a colleague’s apparent mental breakdown, and the corruption and intrigue surrounding a major client of his law firm being sued in a class action case over the effects of toxic agrochemicals.  Tilda Swinton portrays the character of U-North’s sinister general counsel, Karen Crowder, and it was her incredible, nerve-racking performance that won her the Best Supporting Actress trophy at the 80th Annual Academy Awards on February 24, 2008.  The film was one of the most critically acclaimed of the year, and in his review for Entertainment Weekly, Owen Gleiberman wrote “it’s better than good, it just about restores your faith.”  For all FEELguide posts related to Tilda Swinton CLICK HERE.
