Cargoguitar” is the latest terrific collaboration between architect Marcelo Ertorteguy and Sara Valente.  The installation is a room-sized electric guitar with eight strings spanning eight meters in length.  On one end the strings are connected to an upright “media column”, and on the other side of the room is a horizontal spine which results in a hyperbolic paraboloid.  Each string is tuned to a different note, and two amplifiers allow the visitor to experience the vibrational sound in every cell of their body.  The glow-in-the-dark strings and dark room combine to provide the visitor with a much better look at the wave patterns when the strings are activated.  “Cargoguitar” is on exhibit at the 2011 Kobe Biennale.
