I spent this past Canadian Thanksgiving weekend with some old friends in New Hampshire, and not only was I reminded of the magic that can happen when you get a close-knit group of longtime friends together, but I was also reminded of just how phenomenally beautiful New Hampshire is. My friend and her husband live near the picture perfect town of Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and all together there were seven of us, plus my friends’ two incredible little boys. The weather was so off-the-charts gorgeous it would have rivaled any of the best weekends of July, but there we were — smack dab in the middle of October. Hopkinton and its surrounding area is just about the most stunning region of New England I have ever seen, and with the added beauty of fall I could not keep myself from dropping my jaw everywhere I turned. On the late afternoon drive back up to Quebec I was completely mesmerized by the magic hour sunlight that was bringing to electric life the billions of autumn leaves that blanketed the stunning hills of New Hampshire and Vermont. As I weaved through the red, orange, and yellow hills (at a highly illegal speed mind you) I think I listened to Neon Indian’s “Halogen (I Could Be A Shadow)” like a hundred times — a perfect soundtrack match if you happen to find yourself zipping along a country road anytime soon. This marks the second time I’ve been down to Hopkinton, and once again I can’t stop thinking to myself how someday very soon I know for a fact I will find myself living the small town country life. Life really doesn’t get much better than this folks.
