Weirdcore, the self-proclaimed specialist in “extreme whatever-ness!” is the tour visual wizard for artists such as Aphex Twin, M.I.A., Simian Mobile Disco, The Horrors, GAMES, Annie Mac, Mos Def, A-trak, Mr Hudson, Miike Snow, Cassette Playa, The Wire Magazine, etc. His latest offering is the music video for Retro/Grade‘s “MindFighter” and Weirdcore himself admits the piece is “way more hi-fi than my usual stuff, but still a bit weird.” The video follows the evolution of two mercury-like humanoid figures who over the course of time arrive at a mysterious cloud of pink “consciousness”. My favorite snippet tracks one of these figures as it moves down a set of stairs, beautifully echoing Marchel Duchamp’s iconic 1912 futurist painting “Nude Descending A Staircase No.2” which was one of the most important works in the history of modern art.
