A brand new exhibition has just opened in Paris called “Super-Computer-Romantics” and it looks to be truly exceptional. The show covers the very best in character design, motion design, and animation (I might add that texture seems to be a huge factor in the material being presented; texturing in this industry has evolved light years beyond where it was just a few short years ago — consider how each strand of hair has to be vectorized, so imagine the processing power required to animate these creatures). The credit to “Matt Pyke and Friends” is enough reason for you to run to this thing if you’re in Paris considering that Matt is the genius behind Universal Everything. Here’s what I pulled from the La Gaîté Lyrique’s website:
“Matt Pyke is one of the most innovative – and positive – motion-artists of his time. His approach can be described as both scientific and holistic, as the name of his design studio, Universal Everything, suggests. The striking variety of his artistic practices (product, print, branded art, tv idents, interactive design, shop installations, arts), has positioned Pyke as a global contributor in the diffusion and popularization of design and motion design. La Gaîté Lyrique invites the artist for an exceptional exhibition, a lecture, and provides more insights about the creator in the ressources center and the video games space for a special curation.”
The show was curated by Charlotte Leouzon and runs from April 21 – May 27, 2011 at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris at 3 bis rue Papin, 75003 (just ten minutes from the Pompidou Centre).
