After watching these two television ads for the Wegmans grocery store chain, I was left wondering about the mental condition of Alec Baldwin.  There are two possibilities here: 1) Alec Baldwin is losing his mind, or 2) Alec Baldwin is using these spots as an experiment of subversion in the world of Madison Avenue publicity.  Either way, these ads are as unsettling as they are entertaining.

In the first spot, Baldwin reveals that neither he nor his mother is capable of picking a single cake or pie to eat and decides to buy one of each.  In the second spot (and perhaps the most bizarre of the two) Baldwin is so overjoyed that you can buy complete meals for $6 at Wegmans that he launches into a frightening mini-rant about how he is unable to obtain coffee for that price in New York City.  Terrifying.

But in the end, who better than Alec Baldwin to fly in the face of conventional wisdom that says when you’re riding a high in Hollywood, it’s probably not the best thing to do advertising for a regional supermarket chain.

And here’s a highlight reel with some of Jack Donaghy’s funniest misogynistic zingers from “30 Rock” including:

Jack Donaghy: “Lemon, I’m impressed.  You’re beginning to think like a businessman.”

Liz Lemon: “A businesswoman.”

Jack Donaghy: “I don’t think that’s a word.”
