Through the Sistine Chapel or “The Pieta” we know of the mastery and personality of Michelangelo. Now, with the exhibition “The Life Of Michelangelo” (in Sienna, Italy) we also know his signature and his passion for prose.  Michelangelo may have burned many of his papers and sketches, but his writing and drawing on the ones that remain offer a fascinating window to his inner life.  Collected by the Casa Buonarotti Foundation, the documents range from the artist’s youthful poetry to orders and receipts for blocks of marble and the letters he wrote when he was nearly ninety to his favourite grandson, Leonardo.  There are also many documents relating to Michelangelo’s work in Siena.

You can also watch an even better report on the exhibition at The Guardian.
