Everyone gets stressed out sometimes. But for some, anxiety can become a real problem. You cannot live a productive and happy life if you are constantly anxious. What if you are always stressed and you don’t even know why? You should probably talk to someone about that. There are plenty of great mental health experts online who can help you figure it out. In fact, BetterHelp.com has over a thousand certified mental health experts who are experience in online therapy. However, if you are not ready to take that step, there are some things you can do at home to help you get rid of that anxiety.

Try Some Meditation

There are many ways that you can relax. Some people use meditation to calm their mind and center themselves. By concentrating on your inner mind, focusing on your breathing, and relaxing the body, you can learn to let go of the anxiety and negative thoughts and feelings. There are those who can sit and meditate in a crowded room just about anywhere no matter what is going on. Others have trouble focusing even if they are alone and everything is peaceful. One way to promote that inner peace is to have a safe room. This is not a room where you can go lock yourself away from criminals who are breaking into your home. This safe room is a room of your very own where you can be alone and relax.

What is a Zen Room?

Making a zen room has to be done by your own standards. Although many will tell you that light blues, greens, and grays are good for calming you, others find that bright oranges, yellows, and reds are much better for them. But one thing that your calm room needs is a door. Make sure you are able to shut everyone else out and be alone. This is your safe space and you cannot relax and calm down if your kids are running in and out or the dog is jumping on you. Of course, you cannot stop them from knocking on the door or, in some cases, scratching and barking. There is a way to fix that too, though. Get some noise-canceling headphones.

Music and Dancing

That is another thing your zen room should have, music that you enjoy. No matter what it is, whether you enjoy country, rap, rock, or even heavy metal. Whatever you feel helps you relax. Wear the headphones. Preferably cordless so you can move around the room if you want to. Because exercise is another thing that can get rid of anxiety. However you like to get moving. Dancing, hopping up and down, or even weightlifting. If you enjoy it, do it because moving around increases your endorphins, which improves your mood.

Make Your Room Smell Good

Scents are also important in your safe room. You can use candles, air freshener sprays, essential oils, or potpourri. Put whatever scents you like all over the room. Change it once in a while though because your nose will actually get “nose blind” as they say on television. After smelling something all the time, you get immune to it. So, change it up every 90 days or so. And have a bed or couch you can relax on. Because you may just need a nap

Relax

The most important thing in your safe room is that you have to love being there. It should make you comfortable and happy just thinking about it. And go there whenever you need to. If the kids are driving you crazy, head for the safe room. Let your significant other take over for a while. No matter what, talk to someone if you need to. If you are feeling overwhelmed or out of control, contact a professional as soon as you can. Online therapy is easy, and you don’t even need an appointment.
